Window Tint Aftercare: How to Protect Your Investment

You just got your windows tinted. The film looks perfect — now the goal is keeping it that way for years. The first few weeks are the most important. Here's what to do and what to avoid.

The Curing Period (First 1–3 Weeks)

After installation, your tint needs time to fully cure. During this period:

  • Don't roll down your windows for at least 3–5 days. Rolling them down too soon can peel the film before it's fully adhered.
  • Expect some haziness or small water bubbles. This is completely normal. The water used during installation takes time to evaporate. It usually clears up within 1–2 weeks, sometimes up to 4 weeks in cold weather.
  • Park in the sun when possible. Heat helps the curing process. A warm car speeds up evaporation of the water trapped under the film.

Cleaning Your Tinted Windows

  • Wait at least a week before cleaning the inside of your windows.
  • Use a soft microfiber cloth and a mild, ammonia-free cleaner. Ammonia breaks down the film over time.
  • Spray the cleaner onto the cloth — not directly on the glass — to avoid liquid seeping into the edges.
  • Never use abrasive sponges, paper towels, or scraping tools on tinted glass.

What to Avoid Long-Term

  • No bumper stickers or decals on tinted windows. Removing them can damage the film.
  • Be careful with seatbelts. Letting a seatbelt snap against the door glass can chip the tint edge.
  • Avoid parking near sprinklers if you can — hard water spots can etch into the film over time.
  • Don't use window sunshades that suction-cup to the glass. The suction cups can leave marks or pull on the film.

Signs Your Tint Needs Attention

Quality film installed properly should last years. But if you notice bubbling that doesn't go away after the curing period, peeling at the edges, or purple discoloration, contact us. Our Royal Protection film comes with a lifetime warranty against these issues.

The Bottom Line

A little patience in the first few weeks pays off for years. Follow these simple steps and your tint will keep looking clean, dark, and professional.
