Single-Cab vs. Extended-Cab Truck Tinting: Why Pricing Isn't One-Size-Fits-All

If you've ever asked for a window tint quote and wondered why the price for your buddy's truck is different from yours, you're not alone. Truck owners across Eagle Mountain, Lehi, Saratoga Springs, American Fork, and Pleasant Grove ask us this all the time. The answer comes down to one simple factor: the size of your cab — and how many windows come with it.

At King Romer, we believe in transparent pricing, and that means helping you understand exactly what goes into your quote before you commit.

How Cab Type Affects Window Count

This is the foundation of truck tint pricing. More windows mean more material, more labor, and more time on the job.

  • Single-Cab (Regular Cab): Typically has just two windows — the driver and passenger side. That's it. Straightforward, quick, and the most budget-friendly option.
  • Extended Cab (Crew Cab / Double Cab): Adds rear quarter windows or full rear-door glass, depending on the make and model. You could be looking at four to six windows total.

When you're tinting a Ram 1500 Crew Cab versus a base-model single-cab F-150, you're essentially doing two very different jobs. The material alone can be double the amount.

It's Not Just About Window Count

Window count is the big one, but it's not the only variable. Here are a few other factors that influence your final quote:

Window Shape and Curve

Some rear quarter windows on extended cabs have complex curves that require extra time to cut and install the film properly. A flat, straight window is faster and easier to work with.

Rear Glass Configuration

Does your truck have a rear sliding window or a fixed single pane? Sliding rear windows have a divider in the middle, which means the film has to be cut in sections — adding labor time to the job.

Film Package Selection

This is where the biggest price difference often lives. At King Romer, we offer two premium packages:

  • Basic Coverage uses INSULEX True Carbon IR film — a high-quality carbon-based film that blocks heat and UV rays without signal interference. It's a smart choice for truck owners who want solid protection at a fair price.
  • Royal Protection uses X Supreme Nano Ceramic film — our flagship, top-tier option with superior heat rejection, crystal clarity, and a lifetime warranty. If you're investing in a newer truck or spending a lot of time on Utah County roads in the summer heat, this is the package built to last.

The per-window cost difference between these two packages, multiplied across a full crew cab, can add up — which is why understanding your options matters.

Real-World Example: Eagle Mountain to Lehi

Imagine two neighbors. One drives a single-cab work truck he uses for hauling. The other has a crew cab he uses for family road trips from Saratoga Springs to American Fork. Same truck brand, completely different tinting jobs.

The single-cab owner needs two windows done with Basic Coverage — clean, efficient, and done in under an hour. The crew cab owner wants the full Royal Protection package on five windows to protect his kids from UV exposure and keep the interior cool during summer drives through Pleasant Grove. More windows, premium film, more time. The pricing reflects that reality.

Why Transparency Matters

Some shops give you a flat rate and surprise you at the register. At King Romer, we walk you through every detail — cab type, window count, film choice — so your quote makes sense before we start cutting film. Serving Utah County means serving communities that value honesty, and that's exactly how we operate.
